To identify a TRV look for some or all of the following:

  • it will always have a numerical temperature scale
  • may be more bulbous or taller than an MRV
  • a TRV will normally have ventilation points on the head
  • the valve can be identified as having an adjustable pin that can be pushed down firmly (see insert picture of TRV)

To identify an MRV look for some or all of the following:

  • an MRV is usually more compact than a TRV
  • it sometimes has a securing screw through the top of the cap
  • it will never have a numerical temperature scale
  • if the cap is removed you can identify the valve as it has a square spindle (see insert picture of MRV)
